02 Why is the Yelp filter so aggressive?
Yelp uses a proprietary recommendation algorithm that automatically hides reviews it deems suspicious. About 25% of all Yelp reviews get filtered to the “not currently recommended” section (visible only via a small link at the bottom of the page). The filter targets new accounts, accounts without photos / friends / check-ins, out-of-area reviewers, and accounts that exclusively leave 5★ reviews. We use accounts that pass these signals.

Yelp matches reviewer location vs business location aggressively. Out-of-area reviews get filtered almost instantly. We use accounts based in (or close to) your business’s metro area for credibility — a Paris reviewer reviewing a NYC restaurant is the easiest pattern for Yelp to flag.
